Tomorrow… The Supreme State Security Prosecution (SSSP) considers the renewal of the detention order against Sherif El Rouby
Tomorrow, Tuesday, December 6, 2022, the Supreme State Security Prosecution considers the renewal of the detention order against activist, Sherif El Roubym pending investigations in Case No.1634 of 2022, Supreme State Security counting, after more than four months since the decision to release him.
SSSP accused El Rouby of charges of spreading, publishing and broadcasting false news and data, misusing a social media platform “Facebook”, and joining a terrorist group while acknowledging its purposes, later he was imprisoned in Abo Zaabal Prison.
It is worth noting that on April 16, 2018, El Rouby was brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, to be investigated pending case No.621 of 2018 State Security counting, after being arrested in Alexandria Governorate where he was imprisoned since that date, till the Criminal Court decided to release him on July 22, 2019.
In 2020, he was released by a decision from Cairo Terrorism Criminal Court after nearly two years in pretrial detention. After a short time of freedom, he faced a pretrial detention once again till the time of releasing him at the end of last May pending Case No.1111/2021, together with another group of released prisoners.
After releasing him, through his Facebook account, Sherif highlighted his suffering, together with the suffering of other prisoners who were pardoned or released, in order to be able to have a decent in light of the hardships they face in obtaining proper job opportunities or the ability to travel or freedom of movement.
No sooner had the political activist Sherif El Rouby enjoyed the decision to release him, than he was surprised by being arrested once again in last September only four months after his release, to renew his tragedy in imprisonment that he had suffered from during the years, and to become a semi-permanent guest in the prisoners of conscience cells.
Following his arrest, the Presidential Pardon Committee, together with a number of parties, politicians, and human rights defenders issued initiatives to re-integrate the released prisoners who are pardoned or released, at the time when a number of remand prisoners were released under release lists later.
Under these initiatives, and the release of a number of prisoners of conscience on release and Presidential pardon lists, the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights (ECESR) calls upon the responsible authorities, starting from the Presidency of the Republic, passing through the Presidential Pardon Committee, to the Public Prosecution to immediately intervene to end the suffering of El Rouby and his family through the decision to release him and bring him back to his normal life.
