Cairo Criminal Court Renews Detention of 22 Defendants, Including Hamdi Al-Za’im, for 45 Days on Charges of Joining a Terrorist Organization

On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the Cairo Criminal Court in Badr, sitting in a consultation room, decided to renew the detention of 22 defendants for 45 days in connection with cases 330 of 2022 and 955 of 2020 under the jurisdiction of the Supreme State Security Prosecution.

The list of those detained in case No. 330 of 2022 includes: Ahmed Khairy Mohamed Saleh, Al-Husseini Farghaly Othman, Mostafa El-Shenawy Abdel Fattah, Mostafa Ibrahim El-Sayed, Tarek Abu El-Ma’aref Mohamed, Abdel Fattah Mourad Abdel Fattah, Islam Mohamed Metwally, Abu Bakr Ali El-Sayed, Mohamed Salim Ibrahim, Taha Ahmed Abdel Rahim Abdel Tawab, Makram El-Sayed Gomaa, Ahmed Mohamed Moussa Abdel Fattah, Mohamed El-Sayed Mohamed Othman, Abdel Rahman Mohamed Atia, Mahmoud Reda Manjoud, Mostafa Sayed Abdel Hamid, Arafat Abdel Aziz Mahmoud, Mohamed Adi Abdel Hamid Mousalli, Mahmoud Mostafa Ali, and Mahmoud Nasr El-Din Ahmed.

In case No.955 of 2020 under the jurisdiction of the Supreme State Security Prosecution, the list includes photojournalist Hamdi Mokhtar Ali, known as “Hamdi Al-Za’im,” and Elham Mohamed Abdel Azim, who is detained in 10th of Ramadan (4) Prison for Females.

The charges against them include joining a banned organization, spreading false news, misusing social media platforms, among other charges.
