The Egyptian Center Calls for Immediate Presidential Pardon for Alaa Abdel Fattah and an End to His Family’s Ordeal

The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights expresses its grave concern over the critical health condition of Dr. Laila Soueif, who has reached the 150th day of her hunger strike in protest against the continued detention of her son, political activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, despite his completion of the custodial sentence imposed on him, according to his legal counsel, Mr. Khaled Ali.
Dr. Soueif’s health has significantly deteriorated, with a weight loss of approximately 30 kilograms. She was recently admitted to St. Thomas’ Hospital in London following a severe drop in blood glucose levels, placing her life at imminent risk.
The Egyptian Center joins numerous institutions and individuals in urging the issuance of an immediate presidential pardon for Alaa Abdel Fattah and an end to his family’s prolonged suffering. The Abdel Fattah family has made substantial contributions to the nation, and granting such a pardon would promote social cohesion while reaffirming the state’s commitment to upholding human rights and the principles of justice.
