The detention of defendants has been extended for 45 days in connection with posts related to rising prices

On Monday, October 14, 2024, the Cairo Criminal Court, convening in the deliberation chamber at the Badr Courthouse Complex, ordered the renewal of the detention of Ahmed Khairy Mohamed Saleh, Mostafa El-Shenawy Abdel Fattah, Tarek Abou El-Maaref Mohamed, Mohamed Selim Ibrahim, and others for an additional 45 days, pending investigation in Case No. 330 of 2022 by the Supreme State Security Prosecution.

The prosecution has charged the defendants with membership in a banned organization, disseminating false news and information, and misusing social media platforms.

The defendants were originally arrested in March 2022 in connection with social media posts discussing the rising cost of living and inflation.
