Including a labor leader.. The detention of 6 activists in Alexandria for 15 days in the case of “a banner supporting Palestine”

The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided yesterday, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, to renew the detention of 6 activists, including a labor leader, for 15 days pending case No. 1644 of 2024, on charges of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news and statements, and participating in a gathering, based on raising of banner in support of Palestine in the Alexandria Governorate.

Security forces arrested 6 activists from their homes in Alexandria Governorate on Sunday, April 28, 2024, for raising a banner in support of Palestine. Their names are as follows, Omar Sami Al Ansari Goueili, Abdullah Ahmed Abdel Dayem, Shahab al-Din Ashraf al-Samadi, Youssef Yasser Mohammed Farran, and Mohamed Ahmed Hamed Diab. The next day, labor leader Shadi Ali Mohamed, known as Shadi Mohamed, who works at a textile company in Alexandria, was also arrested.

The Popular Committee for Solidarity with the Palestinian People in Alexandria condemned the arrest of its five members, in addition to Shadi Mohamed, who is a member of the Popular Socialist Alliance Party, demanding their release along with all prisoners of solidarity with Palestine.

Shadi Mohamed, a founding member of the Permanent Conference of Alexandria Workers and former leader in the Independent Union of Workers at Nile Linen Group for furnishings and textiles, was arbitrarily dismissed in 2019 on the pretext of absenteeism., as for his participation in workers’ protests against the company’s management policies.

Due to his union activity, Shadi Mohamed was previously arrested on October 3, 2022, in case No. 10233 of 2022, under the pretext of joining a terrorist group, and spreading false news”. Then he was put in custody in Borg El Arab Prison, Later he was released on bail on October 24, 2022.
