Criminal justice | ECESR Submits Complaint to Prosecutor-General over Noby’s Hunger Strike

ECESR lawyers submitted the complaint (17818/2014) to Prosecutor-General about the hunger strike of Hamada Noby, a defendant in Shura Council demonstrations. Noby went on hunger strike in protest against being held in custody for a long time without legal justification, as well as for the authorities to provide fair trial guarantees. In this complaint, the ECESR lawyers called on the authorities to follow the legal procedures vis-à-vis Hamada Noby’s hunger strike, provide the necessary medical care, and to ensure not coercing him to stop his hunger strike. They also held Tura prison management the responsibility of his safety and his right not to be harassed because of his hunger strike.

In the same context, ECESR lawyers submitted an official report (3803/2014) in Abdeen police station on behalf of two persons who joined the hunger strike from outside the prison: Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, known as Yassin Mohammed (a defendant in the Shura Council demonstrations), and Islam Talat. Both went on hunger strike on August 31 for the release of all political detainees from custody and for providing fair trial guarantees in protest-related cases.
