Complaint calls for the seizure of a shipment of bombs and the analysis thereof, And a lawsuit to terminate its use against demonstrators, And the center stands in solidarity with the staff of the port of Al-Adabeya

This morning, lawyers from the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights filed a complaint with the Attorney-General (Complaint No. 10 898, petitions) for allowing a shipment of tear gas access into Egypt. According to what Egyptian newspaper “Al-Shorouk” published on its website on November 29, 2011, revealing that the Port of Al-Adabeya of Al-Sokhna area, Suez, received a shipment of up to 7 tons of tear gas, and is expecting the arrival of other shipments, which will reach a total of 21 tons of tear gas bombs. The news story mentioned that the shipment arrived to the port loaded on deck of “Darina Danica” led by its Captain, “Andre Cosa” and sent by the company “Coppinr System of America” and confirmed that immediately upon its arrival to the port with the shipment of bombs inside, a state of anger seized the staff of the Port, because of the high number of martyrs and wounded they have seen in Tahrir square, due to this type of bombs. Five of the customs officers have rejected to accept this shipment.
The lawyers of the center filed a complaint this morning against the following: Dr. Essam Sharaf, individually and in his official capacity; Major General Mansour El-Essawy, individually and in his official capacity; the legal representative and the chief executive of the company “Coppinr System of America”. The complaint called on the Attorney General to hold the shipment and subject it to laboratory analysis, to examine it validity, its contents, and the limits of its impact on the lives and health of Egyptians, and whether its use is prohibited.
The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights confirms its rejection of the entry of such shipments into Egypt, and calls on the Military Council, the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Interior to immediately cease the use of such weapons, which endangers the lives of peaceful demonstrators. Therefore, the lawyers of the Egyptian Center have filed a lawsuit at the State Council against the Military Council, the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Interior to oblige them to disperse the demonstrators with water only and with the use of fire brigade vehicles, prohibiting the use of all types of bombs and bullets and weapons that put the lives of the protesters at risk, whether the risk of death or serious injuries and disabilities.
The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights also stresses its rejection of any abuse against the employees and staff of the port of Al-Adabeya. The Center declares its solidarity with their national and humanitarian stance against the entry of such weapons and its use against Egyptians, and condemns their referral for investigation and calls for the immediate closure of these investigations.
