The Supreme State Security Prosecution considered renewing the detention of a member of the Applied Professions Syndicate in relation to the “July 12 Protest Calls.”

Today, Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Supreme State Security Prosecution at the New Cairo Court considered the renewal of the detention of “Islam M. A.”, a member of the Applied Professions Syndicate in Aswan, for 15 days pending case No. 4343 of 2024, Supreme State Security, known as the “July 12 Protest Calls.”

Islam and others in the case face charges including joining a terrorist group, misusing social media, and other charges. The defense team, including a lawyer from the center and others, attended the detention renewal hearing, submitting a file of documents, asserting that the defendant has no connection or relationship with any political or religious organizations.

The defense team also argued for the invalidity of the charges against the defendant—who attended the session via video conference from his detention at 10th of Ramadan Prison—demanding his immediate release due to the absence of grounds for pretrial detention.
