The Release of Two Defendants Accused of Spreading False News Over Posts on Rising Living Costs
The Supreme State Security Prosecution has ordered the release of Islam Mahmoud Abdelaziz and Tamer Mowad Eid pending investigations in Case No. 3434 of 2024 (Supreme State Security). Both defendants have returned to their respective homes in the governorates of Aswan and Beheira following the completion of the necessary procedures to execute the release order.
Security forces had arrested the two defendants, along with several others, in July 2024, in connection with social media posts addressing rising prices and deteriorating living conditions. The prosecution charged them with joining a banned group, spreading false news, and misusing social media platforms.
It is noteworthy that Mohamed Awad Abdelaziz, another defendant in the same case, was also released in early October 2024, with the release order implemented through the El-Laban Police Department in Alexandria Governorate.
