The Egyptian Center Condemns the Suspension of the Tunisian Forum: A New Unjust Attempt to Silence Voices

The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights expresses its full solidarity with the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights following the decision issued on October 27, 2025, to suspend the Forum’s activities for one month. This measure constitutes yet another step in the ongoing campaign to restrict independent civil society in Tunisia.

This decision, which mirrors similar administrative actions recently taken against several associations and organizations, underscores the persistent attempts to curtail civic space and suppress independent voices that refuse to yield and continue to uphold the principles of justice, dignity, and freedom.

The Egyptian Center emphasizes that the continuous financial and fiscal audits targeting the Forum since April 2025 represent a further stage in a systematic pattern of harassment against independent organizations that have consistently stood with marginalized and disadvantaged groups.

Since its establishment, the Tunisian Forum has served as a credible and steadfast advocate for social and labor movements in Tunisia, a dedicated defender of economic and social rights, and a strong supporter of grassroots struggles for justice and dignity. Accordingly, the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights strongly condemns this arbitrary administrative measure and considers it a direct infringement on the right to freedom of association and the citizens’ right to participate in civic life.

The struggle for economic and social rights transcends borders. What the Forum is currently facing in Tunisia strikes at the very core of the regional fight for human rights. The Center therefore reaffirms that any attempt to silence critical voices or to restrict civic engagement will not deter those committed to their just cause. On the contrary, it will only reinforce their determination to amplify the voices of the oppressed and to advocate for the aspirations of the communities they represent and serve.

The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights reiterates its unwavering solidarity with its colleagues at the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, affirms their legitimate right to challenge this unjust decision through all available legal means, and remains jointly committed with them to the universal values of freedom, justice, and human dignity, as well as to the right of all independent organizations to operate freely, without intimidation or restriction.
