Student Mohab Rabie’s Detention Renewed .. Egyptian Center Calls for His Release in Line with Other Defendants in the Case

The Second Terrorism Circuit at the Cairo Criminal Court, convening at the Badr Court Complex, has ordered the renewal of student Mohab Rabie Ibrahim’s pretrial detention for an additional 45 days, pending ongoing investigations in State Security Case No. 655 of 2024.

Mohab, the son of journalist Rabie Ibrahim, was arrested in February 2024 in connection with his activity on social media platforms, according to statements from his family.

He faces charges of spreading false information and joining a terrorist organization, and has remained in custody since his arrest. His detention continues to be periodically renewed by the terrorism chamber of the Criminal Court. He is currently held at Al-Ashir Min Ramadan Prison (6th of October Branch).

Despite the circumstances of his detention, Mohab was able to study for his final year of high school while in prison and sat for the official exams, attaining a 61% score.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Supreme State Security Prosecution ordered the release of 37 detainees, including six defendants in the same case.

In light of this development, Mohab’s family and the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights are renewing their call for his release on equal grounds, to allow him to continue his university education outside prison.
