Release of Defendant Accused of Spreading False News Over Posts on Rising Living Costs

The Supreme State Security Prosecution has ordered the release of Mohamed Awad Abdelaziz pending investigation in Case No. 3434 of 2024 (Supreme State Security). The release order was executed by the Al-Laban Police Department in Alexandria, which holds jurisdiction over his area of residence.

Security forces had arrested Abdelaziz and several others in July 2024 in connection with social media posts concerning price increases and deteriorating living conditions.

The prosecution charged the defendants with joining a banned organization, spreading false news, and misusing social media platforms, before ultimately ordering Abdelaziz’s release pending further investigation.
