Joint Solidarity Statement – Full Support for Drinking Water Company Workers

The undersigned express their full solidarity with the workers and employees of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in Cairo, Giza, Sharqia, Beni Suef, and Minya, who have recently held peaceful protest gatherings. The demands raised by the workers constitute core labor rights already established under Egyptian law, including the implementation of the minimum wage, the payment of overdue bonuses dating back to 2016, and the regularization of temporary employment.
The signatories further express grave concern regarding the severe economic and workplace conditions faced by company employees, stemming from the widening disparity between the rising cost of living and the erosion of their wages, coupled with the continued withholding of their lawful entitlements.
Matters have escalated to the point where the company has refused to comply with final and enforceable court judgments obtained by some workers ordering the payment of their overdue bonuses. These entitlements should, as a matter of law, have been disbursed without workers being compelled to initiate legal proceedings.
The signatories to this statement call on the Ministry of Housing to immediately review and address the workers’ legitimate demands. They also urge the Ministry of Labour to examine the company’s compliance with the statutory minimum wage requirements.
