Full Support for the Demands of Al-Bawaba News Journalists Participating in the Sit-in to Enforce the Minimum Wage

The undersigned express their full solidarity with the demands of the journalists at Al-Bawaba News and with their peaceful sit-in, which seeks nothing more than the enforcement of the law and the rights it guarantees—most fundamentally the implementation of the minimum wage, which itself falls below what is necessary for a dignified standard of living.
Moreover, the undersigned express their deep concern and dismay at the institution’s severe intransigence toward the journalists, citing a financial crisis that allegedly prevents the institution from granting them their lawful rights—an “crisis” that only surfaced after journalists voiced their grievances through every available channel, submitting complaint after complaint, leading ultimately to their decision to stage a sit-in.
The undersigned call upon the Supreme Council for Media Regulation and the Ministry of Labor to immediately examine the demands of the journalists, who have been staging their sit-in for fourteen days, and to ensure the enforcement of the law in order to secure the rights of journalists who have been exploited for years without oversight or accountability.
The signatories to this statement reiterate the demand for the implementation of the minimum wage, in solidarity with the peaceful protesters and in support of their legitimate right to the enforcement of the law.
They also declare their support for the efforts of the President and the Board of the Journalists’ Syndicate to resolve the crisis, and urge them to take firmer measures to uphold the lawful and legitimate demands of the journalists participating in the sit-in.
