Detention of Four Defendants Renewed for 45 Days Over Social Media Posts on Rising Living Costs

On Sunday, July 6, 2025, the Cairo Criminal Court, convening at the Badr Judicial Complex, ordered the renewal of the pretrial detention of four citizens and others for an additional 45 days, pending investigation in State Security Case No. 3434 of 2024.

The defendants include: Islam Mahmoud Abdelaziz, Abdelaziz Ramadan Ali, Mohamed Awad Abdelaziz, and Tamer Moawad Eid.

Security forces arrested the defendants in July 2024 in connection with social media posts addressing rising prices and the deterioration of living conditions.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution (SSSP) charged them with joining a banned group, spreading false news, and misusing social media platforms.
