15 Rulings to Date .. Judiciary Awards EGP 367,000 in Compensation to Three Arbitrarily Dismissed Journalists from Al-Treeq Newspaper

The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights has obtained three new rulings from the North Giza Primary Court, awarding a total of EGP 367,000 in compensation to three journalists formerly employed by Al-Tareeq newspaper. The awarded compensation covers arbitrary dismissal, notice period pay, accrued leave entitlements, and outstanding salary dues.
The underlying facts of the cases date back to November 2023, when the journalists were unexpectedly denied entry to their workplace at Al-Treeq. Security personnel prevented them from accessing the premises without providing any lawful or justifiable reason—constituting a clear violation of the Labor Law, the Press Regulation Law, and the nature of journalistic employment.
Following the incident, the journalists filed official reports at the Agouza Police Station and lodged collective complaints with the Agouza Labor Office. Upon the failure of amicable settlement attempts, the journalists requested that the disputes be referred to the competent labor court.
On May 28, 2025, the court issued its rulings in favor of the journalists, ordering compensation for arbitrary dismissal and affirming their right to payment in lieu of notice, accrued vacation balances, and due wages.
Since last year, the Egyptian Center has secured similar favorable judgments for other journalists at Al-Tareeq, all involving arbitrary dismissal and denial of workplace access under comparable circumstances.
With these latest rulings, the total number of judgments obtained by the Center’s legal team on behalf of Al-Treeq journalists has now reached fifteen.
