However, We\u2019ve witnessed postgraduate protesters since they started the fight for their rights to demand their right to employment five months ago. The government\u2019s response was either to oppress or to ignore, resulting in a postgraduate protester\u2019s suicide attempt. Such response makes us doubt that the right to employment is guaranteed without nepotism, cronyism or discrimination. Postgraduate protesters lost hope in achieving their rights. \u201cJust poor citizens who don\u2019t have contacts or someone in power\u201d, the postgraduate protesters described themselves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They consider that the \u2018employment contest\u2019 which the state organizes to hire is only suitable for those who enjoy wealth or cronyism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the past few months, postgraduate protesters have been practising their right to demonstrate and protest peacefully, as they protested over 30 times (about once every week) since they started in August 2015 until the police arrested 32 of them on 29 November 2015 from their protest in front of the Cabinet building.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"rtl\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"rtl\" style=\"padding-right: 90px; text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/awl.mayo\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-772459 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD3.jpg\" alt=\"\u0627\u0633\u062a\u062e\u062f\u0627\u0645 \u0646\u0628\u0627\u062a \u0627\u0644\u0643\u0648\u0633\u0629 \u0643\u0634\u0639\u0627\u0631 \u0644\u0644\u0645\u062d\u0633\u0648\u0628\u064a\u0629 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0648\u0627\u0633\u0637\u0629 \u0641\u064a \u0645\u0638\u0627\u0647\u0631\u0627\u062a \u062d\u0645\u0644\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0627\u062c\u0633\u062a\u064a\u0631 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u062f\u0643\u062a\u0648\u0631\u0627\u0629\" width=\"1000\" height=\"591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD3.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD3-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD3-768x454.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A protester holding a poster that reads \u201cMSc on Microbiology from the Faculty of Science, UNEMPLOYED\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attempting to call attention, especially that of both the public and government officials to their cause, they were most creative in their use of different forms of peaceful protest. To express their resentment of the government\u2019s lack of response to their demands of employment in administrative and government posts like the 2002-2014 classes, some of them were dressed in execution clothes, coffins and zucchini (the symbol of cronyism in Egyptian culture). They announced they would escalate by going on hunger strikes and sit-ins. The variety was not restricted to their means of expression as their places of protest varied as well. They protested on the stairs of the Syndicate of Journalists, in front of the Cabinet building, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Planning and the Central Agency for Organization and Administration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since the beginning of October, the postgraduate protesters escalated as they organized a human chain in front of the Lawyer\u2019s Syndicate raising an Egyptian flag that exceeded 100 meters long. By the third week of October, they were on a sit-in on the stairs of the Syndicate of Journalists holding posters that read \u201cMaster and PhD holders will not let go of their rights\u201d, \u201cA Master\u2019s degree equals unemployment\u201d and \u201cWe are the elites of education\u201d.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"rtl\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/awl.mayo\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-772456\" src=\"http:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD1.jpg\" alt=\"\u0645\u0646 \u0645\u0638\u0627\u0647\u0631\u0627\u062a \u062d\u0645\u0644\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0627\u062c\u0633\u062a\u064a\u0631\" width=\"1000\" height=\"591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD1-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD1-768x454.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the Cabinet made them a promise that was never kept, as they were not employed, they protested in front of the Cabinet describing the Civil Service Law as &#8216;unjust&#8217;. In their protest, they distributed an application that includes the data of their requests and petitions of employment, along with the serial numbers of petitions. Security forces dispersed the protest and arrested a number of the protesters who come from outside Cairo and have to travel on weekly basis to Cairo to protest. They were all released on the same day, except for Dr Mahmoud Abu Zaid, general coordinator of the protests who was charged with &#8216;inciting protests&#8217; before he was released on December 1 on bail of 5,000 LE.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"rtl\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/awl.mayo\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-772457\" src=\"http:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD2.jpg\" alt=\"\u0645\u0646 \u0645\u0638\u0627\u0647\u0631\u0627\u062a \u062d\u0645\u0644\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0627\u062c\u0633\u062a\u064a\u0631\" width=\"1000\" height=\"591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD2-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ecesr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/PhD2-768x454.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Such treatment lead some of the youth into despair. Gamal, a 32-year-old protester who comes from Gerga, worked in Saudi Arabia and returned home after the January 25 Revolution in the hope that the Revolution restored the lost dignity. He obtained a master\u2019s degree in Sociology that was however useless, since it could not guarantee him a job opportunity. After he was arrested in the last protest, he was so desperate, especially at the government\u2019s lack of response and had committed suicide by jumping out of his second-floor window, and he almost died.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gamal\u2019s suicide attempt was like an alarm that went off to awaken the Egyptian people who read about postgraduate protests every week. The question is, was Gamal\u2019s suicide attempt as grueling to government officials who deliberately ignored, humiliated, arrested and charged postgraduate protesters? Are they going to continue ignoring them?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Regarding creativity, are we going to witness movements of a different sort aiming at changing unjust conditions?
